Ameraucana
Ameraucanas are a relatively new breed in the APA. They were created using carefully selected Easter Eggers crossed some with gamebirds. They are a pure breed of chicken that always has a pea comb, beard, and muffs. They have clean, slate colored legs and always lay blue or slightly blue-green eggs. They are cold hardy and relatively good fliers.
The recognized color varieties of LF Ameraucanas :
Black, Blue, Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, Self Blue, and White.
We raise Blue, Black, Splash, and White LF Ameraucanas.

Blue, Black, and Splash
Blue, black, and splash, often abbreviated bbs, are lumped together because blue does not breed true. The gene that creates blue and splash birds is an incomplete dominant gene that dilutes black pigment. This means that with no copies you have a black bird, one copy of the allele gives you a blue bird, and two copies gives you a splash bird. Blue birds should also have black heads and black lacing.
Since we are building our flock still we will only have chicks available in limited quantities for 2023 and no hatching eggs other than in our Rainbow Dozen.

White
What is so special about a white bird? They look breathtaking against any background. My white Ameraucana Roos are probably the only birds on the farm I would describe as elegant. And they have THE most adorable fluffy Santa Clause beards. In addition our white Ameraucanas are our gentlest and friendliest chickens we have, including our roosters. They are a little flightier than some other breeds, but definitely the most cuddly and the most tolerant of being picked up and packed around. They are also probably our smartest chickens. Marshmallow (roo in front of the barn) has learned to climb from an object onto my forearm on command like a big white chicken parrot.
